EMRC Building The Educational MultiMedia Research Centre, Anna University is one of the seventeen media centres established by the University Grants Commission to produce Educational Television (ETV) programmes for the college students. Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) coordinates the activities of the media centres.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned the creation of Audio Visual Research Centre at Anna University in 1985 on a 100% grant basis. The UGC's task force on Educational Television has set forth the following objectives for the center:

  • To upgrade, update and enrich the quality of education through Television and Radio.
  • To introduce the newly emerging knowledge using media in education.
  • To take the Educational Television to the remote parts of the country.
  • To produce interactive multi-media learning materials.
  • To provide training in audio/video/multi-media production.

The EMRC, Anna University had begun its programme production in the year 1987. In the beginning, on an average it had a target of one to two programmes per month. Over a period of eight years, the rate of programme production has been accelerated and presently it is averaging four programmes per month. The total number of programmes produced so far is about 764.
